If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study being conducted at the Mount Sinai Medical Center that may help relieve you of your depressive symptoms.
Aim of StudyWe are looking for depressed participants suffering from Major Depressive disorder (MDD) or Bipolar disorder (BD) who have not improved after medication treatments for a study with an investigational novel medication aiming to relieve symptoms of depression. Participants would have visits in our clinic. Eligible participants will receive treatment at no cost and compensation for their time.
Inclusion Criteria• Are suffering from Major Depression

• Have a history of 3 or more failed medication treatments

• Are 21-70 years of age

• Subjects with major depression (MDD) should be willing to taper off any psychiatric medications if currently being taken

Exclusion Criteria• Pregnant or nursing

• Subjects with an unstable medical condition or illness (besides depression or bipolar disease)

• Subjects currently taking illicit drugs or abusing alcohol

What Is Depression?

Everyone occasionally feels sad, but these feelings are usually brief and pass within a few days. When a person has a depressive disorder, it interferes with daily life, normal functioning, and causes pain for both the person with the disorder as well as family and friends who care about him or her. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most that experience it need treatment to improve.

The severity, frequency and duration of symptoms will vary depending on the individual and his or her particular illness.

Symptoms may include:
  • Persistent sad, anxious or "empty" feelings
  • Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and/or helplessness
  • Irritability, restlessness
  • Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable
  • Fatigue and decreased energy
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering details and making decisions
  • Insomnia, early–morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping
  • Overeating, or appetite loss
  • Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
  • Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatmeat

If you are currently suffering from depression, and not taking any medications to treat depression or any other medical illness, you may be eligible to participate in our current Research Studies.
